For soil stabilization, two main types of lime are used: quicklime (calcium oxide) and hydrated lime (calcium hydroxide). Quicklime, produced by heating limestone, reacts exothermically with water, drying and stabilizing wet soils. Hydrated lime, made by adding water to quicklime, is safer to handle and provides similar stabilization benefits without heat generation. Both types enhance soil strength, reduce plasticity, and improve workability for construction projects.
